Cesar Cueva

“As a multi-disciplinary artist, honing my craft in my studio on the South Coast is a solitary activity where I connect with colour and form through different mediums. Although I have designed contemporary jewellery and objects for many years, I have sharpened my focus on the art of photography.

It is for that reason, in Chapter #1 of ELEMENTO, I wanted to introduce a series of work that has never been seen before. I have employed a macro digital photography workflow to achieve a balance in the images that hover between realism and abstraction. Each image can contain anywhere between 35-65 highly detailed photographs that are stacked to achieve a level of hyper clarity, colour rendition and subject sharpness.

Using Australian Quartz as my lens, I have captured the complexity of nature in these detailed landscapes".

“As an Architect of Gemstone Armoury, I have designed contemporary jewellery for ELEMENTO that explores the parallels between nature and human survival. I identify more as a ‘creative’ than an artist, because as a storyteller this has become my spiritual practice.

Each precious gemstone I have armoured up for ELEMENTO has already cycled the planet for millions of years before I even begin to elevate their individual beauty. I choose each gem, like a painter chooses colour for their canvas and then use metal as my final brush strokes to bring the piece together.

Each collection I have created for ELEMENTO has been imprinted with stories inspired by my Samoan ancestry, Aotearoa birth place and the life I have lived in Australia on both Gadigal and Dharawal country.

I hope you enjoy this EPIC ride with Cesar and I on this journey of discovery and creativity, whilst celebrating our Earths elements!"
